Zero Energy Modular home arrives in Swanton

Swanton, VT

An innovative zero energy modular (ZEM) home that generates as much energy as it uses arrives in Swanton this week.

Area residents can get a firsthand look at the ZEM home this Wednesday, Sep. 25, 2 p.m.-6p.m., during a free open house. Attendees can learn about how a heat pump heats and cools, see solar and battery storage in action, and learn about incentives and financing options available to Swanton-area residents interested in purchasing a ZEM home.

The ZEM home will be located on Church Street in Swanton, on the park side. It will remain at its Swanton location through October 6th. Regular open houses are scheduled for each Wednesday and Friday from 2-6 p.m. and each Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

On October 5th, join Swanton Village Electric, the Vermont Public Power Supply Authority, Efficiency Vermont, and the Vermont Council on Rural Development for a Public Power Day celebration on the Swanton Village Green. From 10 a.m.-2 p.m., families can explore the ZEM home along with municipal vehicles and test drive a Nissan LEAF electric car provided by Nissan of St. Albans.

The ZEM model home was built by Vermod, a Vermont company based in Wilder, VT. Featuring 10-inch thick walls, large, quiet windows, and an advanced ventilation system, the ZEM home delivers zero energy costs and a comfortable, affordable, healthy home.

The ZEM model home tour is in partnership with the Vermont Agency of Commerce & Community Development, Swanton Village, the Swanton Enhancement Project, the Vermont Council on Rural Development, and the Vermont Public Power Supply Authority.
