Moisture Management in Residential Wall and Building Assemblies
October 15, 2026
8:30am-10:30am
Effective moisture management is essential for building durability, energy efficiency, and occupant health. This session will provide a comprehensive look at best practices for managing both liquid water and water vapor within residential buildings, following fundamental building scoience principles, and referencing the latest requirements of the VT Residential Building Energy Standards (RBES).
Attendees will gain insights into the critical role of and differences between air and vapor barriers, learning how these elements can help prevent water intrusion and entrapement in building assemblies, while managing for vapor diffusion and drying. Through detailed case studies and practical examples, the session will explore code-compliant methods to incorporate moisture management into building assemblies, offering strategies to reduce long-term maintenance costs and enhance structural longevity. This training will be invaluable for professionals aiming to design and construct resilient, high-performance buildings that meet or exceed code requirements for moisture control.
