Professional Roundtable: Converting Existing Buildings to Multi-Family Use in Vermont

Vermont’s housing shortage is significant, yet many of our villages, towns and cities have underused older buildings: buildings currently rated Mercantile, Business, Industrial, Single Family Home, or Mixed Use. This course explores the building code side of converting these buildings to partial or full Multi-Family use. After an overview of each of the relevant topics: separation of uses, egress, life safety, elevators, sprinklering, accessibility, historic preservation, and Chapter 43, our roundtable of experts will apply the Vermont Fire & Building Safety Code to several case studies. We are limiting the course size to encourage broad discussion.
