Advanced Energy Auditing - UTS Energy Engineering

September 16 - December 9, 2026
3:30pm-5:35pm

Format: Online
Cost: $800

This course is geared toward senior or junior energy auditors who need to develop the analytical skills necessary to calculate energy savings for energy conservation measures in large commercial and institutional facilities.

The course will cover MS Excel data manipulation and analyses techniques that are necessary to calculate energy savings acceptable to utilities for a wide variety of energy conservation measures (Envelope, Service Hot Water, Water systems, Air systems, Motors, VFDs, HVAC, Fans, Pumps, Chillers, Cooling Towers, Boilers, etc.). Detailed analyses of weather data and utility billing data, including interval data, will be included. VBA macros will be provided and developed in class. Simple analysis techniques (such as using degree days) will be reviewed, as well as detailed bin tables using regression analyses, 8,760-hour analyses and other advance techniques. Each student will need to be at a computer with Excel loaded (Excel 2010 or higher is necessary to take full advantage of the class.

This class dovetails into Basic Energy Auditing, where energy using equipment, systems and energy conservation measures are discussed in detail.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  1. To train students to use basic and advanced Excel techniques to review, troubleshoot, correct and interpret utility provided usage data, logger collected data and NOAA weather data.
  2. To instruct students how to develop methods and equations to calculate energy savings for many different equipment/systems/processes and associated energy conservation measure (ECM) analyses.
  3. To provide students with a host of essential “go to“ references, resource data and Excel routines.
