Vermont Building Code (IBC 2021)

This seven-hour course analyzes the building codes and standards applicable to Vermont, including the IBC, NFPA 101, Vermont energy standards, and accessibility requirements. Instruction also examines Vermont’s jurisdictional framework, code adoption process, and emerging regulatory trends related to climate resilience and building electrification.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to navigate Vermont’s building code framework, including the roles of the Department of Public Safety and Division of Fire Safety, and determine which codes apply to public and non-public buildings.
Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to apply IBC 2021 and NFPA 101 requirements for occupancy classification, means of egress, and fire protection features in buildings.
Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to demonstrate compliance with Vermont’s residential and commercial energy standards using applicable compliance pathways and software tools.
Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to apply Vermont accessibility code requirements, including ADA and Vermont Access Board rules, for accessible routes, interior elements, and plumbing fixtures.
