Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Update

Cold Climate Heat Pumps (CCHPs)

  • More qualified products—Effective February 1, incentives will be available for all products detailed on the NEEP cold climate list. All equipment on the Efficiency Vermont–managed qualified product list will continue to be supported as well.
  • Continued moderate-income adder—The $200 post-purchase rebate for income-qualified customers will be extended into 2020. See "Moderate Income Bonus" section on this link for more information.
  • $50 per unit incentive reduction—Effective February 1, all distributor-based CCHP discounts will be reduced by $50. (Note: Green Mountain Power [GMP] customers will continue to receive a $100 additional discount until further notice from GMP.) New incentive levels will be:
    • Less than or equal to two tons: $350 per system
    • Greater than two tons: $450 per system

Air-to-Water Heat Pumps (ATWHPs)

  • Incentives remain the same for these whole building heat pumps. As of January 1, 2020, however, ATWHP rebates will be available only to projects installed by an EEN member participating in the air to water trade group.
  • Continued moderate-income adder—The $500 post-purchase rebate for income-qualified customers will be extended into 2020. See “Moderate Income Bonus” section on this link for more information.

Centrally Ducted Heat Pumps (CDHPs)

  • Centrally Ducted Heat Pump eligibility is now based exclusively on the model number of the outdoor unit. The NEEP Cold Climate List (filtered for "Singlezone Ducted, Centrally Ducted") is still the QPL for the program. However, we are no longer requiring the pairing of indoor/outdoor unit models to qualify.
    • For those that work with contractors, it is important to highlight the fact that the efficiency of the furnace/air handler and the appropriate coil selection (as well as controls and good duct design) are critical to the overall performance of these systems.
  • Incentives remain the same for these whole building heat pumps. As of January 1, 2020, however, CDHP rebates will be available only to projects installed by an EEN member participating in the centrally ducted trade group.
  • Continued moderate-income adder—The $500 post-purchase rebate for income-qualified customers will be extended into 2020. See "Moderate Income Bonus" section on this link for more information.

Heat Pump Water Heaters (HPWHs)

  • Last call for free HPWH—The giveaway for new EEN contractors signing up for the HPWH trade group ends December 31. If you have a voucher for a free HPWH, be sure to claim it before the end of 2019! Contact your Account Manager with any questions.
  • Incentive remaining at $600—The HPWH rebate will stay at its current level into 2020.
  • Natural gas customers are now eligible—Effective January 1, 2020, customers installing a HPWH to replace a natural gas water heater will be eligible for incentives.
