Home Electric System Upgrade
Work with an Efficiency Excellence Network contractor to upgrade your home’s electric panel and get up to $10,000 back. Upgrades may be necessary to prepare your home for new equipment like heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and EV chargers.

- Your household income must be at or below the “Low Income” or “Moderate Income” levels for your county as outlined in this table.
- Low-income customers are eligible to receive 100% of eligible project costs up to $10,000. If your project costs exceed this limit, please contact Efficiency Vermont to discuss whether there may be options for additional coverage.
- Moderate-income customers are eligible to receive 90% of eligible project costs up to a maximum incentive of $10,000. If your project costs exceed this limit, please contact Efficiency Vermont to find out if there are options for additional coverage.
- All equipment must be new and installed in Vermont. Used, rebuilt, or refurbished equipment is not eligible.
- New construction projects are not eligible.
- Owners of rental properties are also eligible - see eligibility details.
- Rebate is subject to change without notice. Rebate is subject to availability of funds. Products must be purchased, installed, and rebate must be submitted on or after the program/offer “effective date” of Nov. 1, 2024, and within 365 days of the product purchase date.
- For customers impacted by the 2023 floods, products must be purchased on or after July 10, 2023. For customers impacted by the 2024 floods, products must be purchased on or after the date that the customer’s home incurred flood damage. Damage must have occurred in 2024 and/or between July 10 – July 31, 2023 (or July 10 – August 10 for residents of Addison County).
- In the event this rebate is discontinued or changed, submissions will be processed at the new rebate level as of the date of the change, or will not be accepted if the funds are exhausted.

- Burlington residents: contact Burlington Electric Department at [email protected] or 802-865-7326 to determine eligibility. Please note that funds are limited so contact BED prior to starting work.
- All other households (including anyone impacted by flooding in 2023 or 2024) should submit a rebate form to Efficiency Vermont.
Eligible Projects:
200 Amp Electric Panel OR Subpanel to achieve total of 200 Amp service AND Associated Equipment. Installation of equipment allowing 225 Amp service is allowable if advised by the electrician. See below for eligible equipment. Existing panel must be under 200 Amp.
Eligible Equipment:
- Service entrance upgrade.
- Electrical panel or subpanel as needed to serve new and likely future loads; an existing panel may be kept as a subpanel if advised by the electrician.
- Wiring (including junction boxes and a receptacle/outlet) to serve a new load.
- Meter socket and related materials, such as a wood backer board.
- Customer-owned pole(s) or conduit, including trenching and backfilling.
- Service line (conductor) from the transformer to home or meter socket.
- Costs associated with disposing of or recycling old equipment that is being replaced under the program.
- Other critical safety corrections if advised by the electrician.
- Ensure that you meet the income eligibility requirements and the program requirements.
- Hire a participating contractor and plan the scope of your project.
- If the estimated project cost exceeds $10,000, your contractor will contact Efficiency Vermont to discuss whether there may be options for additional coverage.
- Contractor completes work.
- Submit rebate form with final invoice after project is completed and form has been signed by you and the electrician who completed the work.
