Button Up Day: A success from Glover to Brattleboro

On behalf of Efficiency Vermont, I want to thank everyone who participated in the Button Up Vermont initiative this year. The official Button Up Day of action was on November 12^th, but as most Vermonters know, getting ready for winter starts early and takes more than just one day.  Activities and planning started in many communities in mid-September, and we are grateful to those that helped us build up to a great day on Saturday the 12^th.

25 events were held all over the Green Mountain State on and around Button Up Day. These events included workshops on weatherization and energy efficient technologies, tables with educational materials and efficient product giveaways at community gatherings and polling locations, phone calls to Vermont residents with helpful energy-saving information, energy open houses, and retail events. 

Efficiency Vermont awarded nine Vermont communities with grants to promote participation in Button Up Day. The town energy committees of Barre, Bethel, Glover, Hartford, South Burlington, Wallingford, Weybridge, and Woodstock, and the non-profit organization NeighborWorks of Western Vermont, which serves the Rutland County area, were crucial in raising awareness about Button Up Day. In turn, they helped their fellow community members save energy and be more comfortable this winter.

A few Button Up Day activities and highlights:

• In South Burlington, residents received energy saving kits at polling locations throughout their city. 200 kits were distributed in just two hours!
• The Home Energy Makeover Exhibit in Hartford, Vermont was featured on the NBC 5 nightly news.
• The Glover Energy Committee presented an electric energy saving lesson to the elementary classes at the Glover School.
• Hardware stores in Montpelier, Brattleboro, Barre, Colchester, Burlington, South Burlington, Essex Junction all held in-store events with special pricing on energy efficient products.

Button Up Day was made up of many events and we thank everyone that participated and helped out for conserving energy by buttoning up.
