Home Electric System Upgrades

Update: As of 4/15/2025, 100% of program funding has been spent and/or allocated. Please stop promotion of the program and stop taking on and submitting new projects. Reminder: Pre-approval is required to reserve funding for your project. Do not start a project without receiving written pre-approval from Efficiency Vermont.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As of March 3, 2025, Efficiency Vermont’s Home Electric System Upgrade program shifted to a reservation-based system due to the popularity of the program. Contractors will submit project information on behalf of customers, and Efficiency Vermont will follow up with customers to obtain income eligibility information.

The rebate is up to $10,000 per installation (residential and rental properties only).

Eligible Projects:
200 Amp electric panel OR subpanel to achieve total of 200 Amp service AND associated equipment. Installation of equipment allowing higher or lower levels of service is allowable if advised by the electrician.

Eligible Equipment:

  1. Service entrance upgrade.
  2. Electrical panel or subpanel as needed to serve new and likely future loads; an existing panel may be kept as a subpanel if advised by the electrician.
  3. Wiring (including junction boxes and a receptacle/outlet) to serve a new load.
  4. Meter socket and related materials, such as a wood backer board.
  5. Customer-owned pole(s) or conduit, including trenching and backfilling.
  6. Service line (conductor) from the transformer to home or meter socket.
  7. Costs associated with disposing of or recycling old equipment that is being replaced under the program.
  8. Other critical safety corrections if advised by the electrician.

Other new household equipment and end-use equipment (such as, but not limited to, EV chargers and heat pumps) is not covered by this rebate. New construction projects are not eligible.
