Foot off the Gas: HVAC Technologies for a Low Carbon Future

May 5 - June 23, 2021
Wednesdays 11:00am-12:00pm

Engineers, HVAC Contractors, HVAC Technicians
Intermediate, Advanced

HVAC and domestic hot water systems represent around 75% of a building’s annual GHG emissions in northern climates. The past decade has witnessed impressive technology developments to address these concerns in the HVAC industry.

This 8-part educational seminar series will discuss the theory, the design, the advantages, and the challenges of the latest technologies that can contribute to decarbonizing our built environment. Many of these involve converting fossil fuel-based systems to all-electric systems, continually improving the emissions of our electrical grid, and the addition of on-site renewables.

Sessions are each Wednesday from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Module 1 - May 5: Current State of Affairs & What We Are Working Towards

Module 2 - May 12: Air & Water Source Heat Pumps in Central Plants

Module 3 - May 19: Energy Recovery Solutions (Air, Water, and Waste Water)

Module 4 - May 26: Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF)

Module 5 - June 2: Humidification Without Using Gas

Module 6 - June 9: Integrated Air Handling Systems in Low Carbon Buildings

Module 7 - June 16: Building Automation's Role in Low Carbon Buildings
