Efficiency Vermont to implement Vermont American Recovery
and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Appliance Program
The ARRA Appliance Rebate program which promotes higher efficiency select ENERGY STAR appliances will be implemented by Efficiency Vermont. In Vermont, ARRA funded rebates will be available for select higher efficiency ENERGY STAR® labeled natural gas boilers, furnaces and tankless hot water heaters, clothes washers, and refrigerators. The promotion of these products will be in addition to Efficiency Vermont?s existing appliance rebate program.
Will all ENERGY STAR labeled appliances be eligible for ARRA funded rebates?
No. Since most appliance purchases in Vermont today are already ENERGY STAR labeled appliances, the ARRA funded rebates will be primarily for appliances with higher efficiencies than just minimum ENERGY STAR energy efficiencies, such as these eligible refrigerators and these clothes washers.
How will the program be administered?
The State of Vermont has asked Efficiency Vermont and Vermont Gas Systems, Inc. to administer this program. Each of these two organizations has a long history of promoting energy efficient home appliances to Vermont consumers. Efficiency Vermont and Vermont Gas Systems, Inc. will implement the ARRA funded rebates as a compliment to their existing energy efficiency programs.
When will the Vermont Program Start and End?
Vermont Gas Systems, Inc. will be implementing its promotion of select high efficiency ENERGY STAR labeled boilers furnaces and tankless hot water heaters beginning January 1st, 2010.
Efficiency Vermont will implement its promotion of select high efficiency ENERGY STAR labeled clothes washers and refrigerators on Vermont's 2010 sales tax holiday, March 6, 2010.
Both Vermont Gas Systems, Inc. and Efficiency Vermont will offer these rebates until the Vermont ARRA funds are exhausted.
What will the value of the rebates be?
Efficiency Vermont and Vermont Gas Systems will be layering the ARRA funds on top of the program rebates that they are currently offering. The combined rebates will be in the range of $100 to $700, depending upon the appliance type.

How do I qualify for these rebates?
For the purchase and installation of select high efficiency ENERGY STAR labeled natural gas boilers, furnaces and tankless hot water heaters, Vermont Gas Systems, Inc. customers must call (802) 863-4511 ext.321to receive pre-approval for the rebate. A limited number of approvals will be given, based on available ARRA funding. All purchases and installations must be verified by a Vermont Gas Systems, Inc. Service Technician.
For the purchase of select high efficiency ENERGY STAR labeled clothes washers and refrigerators, Vermont consumers must visit an Efficiency Vermont Retail Partner Store, purchase a qualifying appliance, and complete and mail in a rebate form with the required documentation, including the disposal of their old appliance. A limited number of rebate forms will be available at Efficiency Vermont Retail Partner stores starting March 6th, based on available ARRA funding.
How and When will participants receive their rebates?
Efficiency Vermont will be utilizing mail in rebate forms, much as it has for its current select ENERGY STAR energy efficient appliance promotions. Completed forms with required documentation will be mailed to The Energy Federation, Efficiency Vermont?s fulfillment contractor. Participants will receive their rebate payment in the form of a check approximately six weeks after placing their completed form with the required documentation in the mail.
Vermont Gas Systems Inc. will process and mail rebates after a verification inspection of the qualifying appliance. Participants will receive their rebate in the form of a check approximately two weeks after the verification inspection.
