LIGHTS

  • Turn them off when you're not around, and let windows provide light wherever possible.

  • Use timers - and keep them properly set (i.e. no outside lights during the day).

  • Replace incandescent bulbs with ENERGY STAR®fluorescent bulbs.

  • Use LED lamps for exit signs instead of incandescents.

  • Replace T-12 fixtures with T-8s and electronic ballasts.

  • Install occupancy sensors to shut off lights when rooms are not in use.

HEATING & COOLING

  • Make sure doors and windows have tight seals and keep them closed when running your air conditioning system.

  • Properly insulate all exterior walls, ceilings and wall cavities.

  • Turn off fans when the building is not in use.

  • Install ENERGY STAR programmable thermostats and locking covers to prevent tampering.

  • Use ENERGY STAR roofing material with high reflectance.

  • Check equipment regularly (evaporative coolers, fans, pumps, etc.) for proper operation and maintenance needs.

OFFICE EQUIPMENT

  • Activate "sleep" mode on computers for highest energy efficiency.

  • Turn off printers, copiers, coffee machine at the end of the day and desk lamps and fans when not in use.
