Linear Fluorescent Lighting

Start saving today by upgrading to T5s or HPT8s.

Linear, or tube-shaped, fluorescent lights are used by many businesses for overhead lighting. If your business uses an older generation of fluorescent lighting, called T12, upgrading to the latest HPT8 or T5 fluorescents can save significant amounts of energy and money. High-Performance T8 (HPT8) systems use 35-50% less energy than T12s and can last 1.5 times as long, which means less money spent on tube replacements and maintenance time. HPT8s provide better light quality, including less flicker and “hum,” and better color than T12s. They also operate cooler, resulting in lower air conditioning costs in your facility.

Smaller and often brighter than the T8, the T5 is used frequently in new construction. Due to the bulb dimensions – 5/8" diameter and 45" long – T5s may fit where others do not, and are popular for cove lighting and display cases, as well as general lighting. They require different mounting sockets than other fluorescent lamps and, therefore, are not a retrofit option.

Efficiency Vermont provides standard rebates to Vermont businesses for installing HPT8 and T5 linear fluorescent systems. The SMARTLIGHT program offers discounted replacement fluorescent, metal halide, and LED products from participating electrical distributors. Custom rebates and technical assistance may be available for lighting not listed on our rebate form.
